Setting an example

unnamedApparel and accessory designer Moutushi Sarkar makes a definite statement though her fun and quirky creations. To her fashion is an expression of change between a person and the surroundings.

Moutushi is currently heading the New Delhi-based Example Clothing launched in 2012:

“Example is based on simplicity of design, – she explains, – and ease of wearing, combined with our love for the handmade. We are exploring the future of handmade and traditional craftsmanship, and its place in our modern lifestyle.”

In India Example Clothing is retailing at boutiques in Goa, Jaipur, and Mumbai. Internationally, it has presence in Amsterdam, UK and Reunion Island. Their customer is inquisitive, worldly and loves being outdoors:

“Our color palette is always inspired by nature and the clothes look brilliant in daylight. They are designed to be worn on the go – I was never a fan of ironing my clothes!”

Moutushi believes that you need to dive deep into your subject to become a good fashion designer:

“Have a keen sense of observation at all times, and always carry a notebook with you. Never forget the artist and the child within you.”
