Abhisek Basak uses broken timepieces to create unique jewelry and other interesting objects. His venture Absynthe design is named after ‘absinthe’, which was mistakenly believed to induce insanity in Victorian times!
Abhisek is especially passionate when it comes to watches:
Watches are an amazing invention of man. A watch measures something that does not physically exist! It is like a dream machine of sorts. In these machines two of humanity’s greatest skills converge – technology and art. A watch has to be both precise and beautiful.
I wanted bring out the hidden beauty of their machines and conserve their artistry for our future generations to appreciate
, – he explains.
Abhisek creates elegant and natural designs following very simple design process:
I design by instinct. It’s kind of primal, natural, intuitive and organic. It starts with chaos. As Henry Adams said, “Chaos was the law of nature; Order was the dream of man.” Parts, history, stories, vision, dream, tools, and materials crowd my table and mind…and as I bring order to them, dreams turn into reality and the pieces are born.
