Illustrator and writer Kalyani Ganapathy lives in the Nilgiris but dreams of traveling the world, looking for stories to tell.
She illustrates book jackets, children’s books and does editorial illustration. Kalyani collaborates with writers to create book jackets and get commissioned by publishing houses.
She believes her ideas come from observation:
“I am an observer, and most of my time is spent observing people and situations, – she says, – the rest of the time I am daydreaming. My illustrations are about friends, strangers and myself. Ideas come from random conversations, thinking about people, traveling, watching TV shows.”
Kalyani loves being able to do something different every day:
“Most days I love waking up and wondering what idea is going to catch up with me that day. I love the freedom of expressing anything I want to, using a medium I am passionate about. And more importantly that I can encapsulate everything I am passionate about on a piece of paper.”
