“Beauty IS a function, and objects of bare utility have a beauty all their own. These are not opposite points of the compass, nor mutually exclusive. That’s how I look at the world. I don’t know what the trend-smiths say.”
She admits that creative journey always seems very pleasant from the outside.
“But, in reality, seemingly unscalable obstacles, unsolvable challenges and unshakably jaded perspectives are at the heart of all creative catharsis.”
Rather than focusing on a ‘signature style’ Nishi prefers to let need, and the making, shape the esthetic. Her Animal Farm and Dunk were awarded Red Dot Award 2014, Best of the Best, at the recently held Red Dot Design Award ceremony in Singapore.
